It is stated in the Avatamsaka Sutra:

“There are six significances in the raising of a Buddha stupa:

1. The World-Honored Tathagata of the past, present and future are manifest; thus, highest supremacy exhibited.

2. Sentient beings are able to worship and pay homage to the Buddha; thus, right faith arisen.

3. Sentient beings can adore the appearance of the Buddha; thus, Buddha's existence confirmed.

4. Sentient beings can proffer abundant oblation with respectful minds; thus, Buddha's virtue generated.

5. Sentient beings can prostrate themselves before the Buddha; thus, past karma eradicated.

6. Sentient beings can dedicate merits towards the four fields of Grace; thus, boundless cultivation fulfilled.

Virtues and merits in building a stupa are so profound that they exceed the volume of sands in the Ganges River.”

The Buddha appeared in this world for one great reason alone. He wished to enlighten, to demonstrate, to awaken and to induce all sentient beings to enter the path to enlightenment. Sakyamuni Buddha said that all sentient beings have an inherent Buddha-nature; thus all beings have the potential to attain Buddhahood.

The Mind is Buddha, likewise, the Buddha is Mind. There is no difference between the Mind, the Buddha and all sentient beings. All phenomena in the universe arise and vanish with conditions. Due to our primordial ignorance, sentient beings have mistakenly grasped the illusory as truth. Thus, we are trapped in the cycle of death and rebirth, not being able to gain liberation. We fail to realize that our true luminous nature is originally non-increasing, non-decreasing, non-arising, non-vanishing, non-defiled and non-pure.

Canada is renowned for its picturesque and natural environment. Niagara Falls, in particular, attracts innumerable tourists each year with its spectacular and breath-taking waterfalls. As a Buddhist votary who dedicates his life to the preaching of Buddhism and the welfare of mankind, I have prayed daily for the establishment of a stupa beside the Falls for the purpose of promulgation of Buddhism to deliver all mankind.

The Lotus Sutra says, “If one with a confused and distracted mind were to enter a temple or stupa and exclaim once, ‘Blessed be the Buddha!', one would attain Buddhahood.” It is without doubt that the appearance of a Buddha's statue helps facilitate the generation of one's Bodhi mind and that the building and maintaining of stupas and temples could benefit mankind in countless multitudes. We therefore decided to acquire a property consisting of 3 acres of land and an old building beside the Falls, with the plan to construct a stupa. It was hoped that we would be able to help bring about a peaceful and contented world through the promulgation of Buddhism in this beautiful location.

Through the gracious blessings of the Buddhas, together with your ardent support and generous contributions, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Sarira Stupa is now completed and the Buddha's statues installed. An old saying goes that a prosperous life surrounded by loved ones results from contributions to the Triple Gem as well as from building and repairing temples and stupas. A good and fulfilled life results from printing sutras and sculpting Buddha statues. These actions generate boundless merits and virtues. On the inauguration of the Stupa and the consecration of the Buddha statues, on behalf of the Sangha, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all those whose contributions have made the Stupa a reality. Together we would like to bring the following heartfelt dedication:

May the merits in establishing the stupa contribute to eternal world peace;

May the Triple Gem stay infinitely in this world;

May the past iniquities of sentient beings from ten directions be eradicated;

May our departed loved ones be delivered and all present kins all be blissful;

May all sentient beings attain Supreme Enlightenment.
