AVALOKITESVARA HEARS THE CRIES OF THE WORLD WITH COMPASSION AND EMPATHY,
SHE BRINGS DELIVERANCE TO ALL
In 863 A.D., a Japanese monk Huie was shipping home a statue of Avalokitesvara that he got from Wutai Shan in China. When the ship reached Lian Hua Yang, his journey was interrupted by a storm, which prevented him from going any further. After many unsuccessful attempts to continue his journey, he was finally convinced that the statue of Avalokitesvara was meant to stay on the island. This is the legend of Putuo Shan.
In 2011, the Putuo Shan Buddhist Association in China presented a 4.9-meter bronze statue of Avalokitesvara to Putuo Shan Buddhist Garden in Canada. President Venerable Dao Ci, accompanied by 10 high monks, joined Elder Master Sing Hung and Venerable Dayi Shi in the consecration ceremony. Auspicious signs were witnessed on this special occasion.
