Sounding the Cham Shan Grand Bell proliferates Bodhicitta
Lighting the Peace Lantern illuminates the Path to Happiness

Let's celebrate the New Year listening to Blessings from Above
May all families enjoy Peace, Harmony, Health and Prosperity

It is an old tradition to celebrate the arrival of a new year by tolling the bell on the New Year's Eve. The sound of the bell expresses redemption and gratitude as well as brings well-wishes and blessings. This is a popular act for both Chinese and Buddhists to farewell the past and welcome the future. Tolling the bell and attending services at Cham Shan Temple on Chinese New Year's Eve is a big event for Chinese-Canadians in Toronto. The Grand Bell and the Peace Lantern are installed for the convenience of the faithful. The sound of the bell drives out negativism and brings new hope. The light of the lantern brightens life and protects loved ones. Each year, thousands of people gather at Cham Shan Temple to celebrate on the Chinese New Year's Eve, among them are government officials in Canada and officers from the Consulate of the People's Republic of China.
