Emei Shan is the shrine of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of Great Practice.
Samantabhadra Bodhisattva personifies the transcendental practices and vows of the Buddhas. He is usually depicted seated on an elephant with six tusks (representing six paramitas). In the Avatamsaka Sutra, Samantabhadra makes Ten Great Vows concerning his Buddhist practice.
